Upper Bucks County Driving Tour

This tour covers the Inland areas of Bucks County.

Route: From Philadelphia, take Interstate Highway 76, the Schuylkill Expressway, west to the "Blue Route" (Interstate 476) and turn north (right) continuing on Route 9, the Northeastern Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Take exit 32 and turn right into Quakertown. Take Route 212 north (left) to Slifer Valley Road, right. Knecht's Covered Bridge is to the left, on Knecht Bridge Road.

Return to Route 212, but take the left at the fork onto Old Bethlehem Road. to a right on Thatcher road. Take the left on Covered Bridge Road to Sheard's Mill Covered Bridge. Return to Old Bethlehem Road and continue south, merging with Route 563. Turn left (with Route 563) but continue across Ridge Road with Route 313 to a right on Branch Road. Turn right on Blooming Glen Road to Mood's Covered Bridge.

Return to Branch Road and continue southwest. Turn right on Walnut Street and cross the bridge to Lenape Park and the South Perkasie Covered Bridge.

Retrace your route on Walnut Street, which becomes Rt. 152, Limekiln Pike jogging left and right to a left on Creek Road. Turn right on Old Iron Hill Road to Pine Valley covered Bridge.

Retrace your path on Creek Road to Route 152 but continue across on new Galena Road. Take a right on Barry Road and follow the left bend onto Trewigtown Road. Turn right on Route 463 to left on West Broad St. in Hatfield to right on Sumneytown Pike. Then take Route 9 south to return to Philadelphia.

FOOD AND SERVICES On this trip, the best bet for food and drink and, well, you know, is probably just before the return to Philadelphia. Continue through Pine Valley Bridge to Route 202 to Doylestown, where you may choose from a nice range of restaurants and, if you have time to spend, enjoy the extraordinary Mercer Museum of technology. Then take Route 202 south to route 463, right, to return to Route 9 and Philadelphia.
