Lehigh County has six covered bridges. This tour includes the six and the one covered bridge in neighboring Northampton County. There is a marked automobile tour, with signs on the highways, but I have found it difficult to follow. This tour is a bit different in detail.
From Philadelphia, take the Northeastern Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike to the Lehigh Valley Interchange, then east on Rt. 22 for one exit, to SE on Rt. 39/I78 to the exit on Cedar Crest Blvd. Go south on Cedar Crest to a left on fish Hatchery Road, under Rt. 309 and through the intersection of Fish Hatchery with Oxford, then bend right into the parking for Bogert's Bridge.
Double back to Cedar Crest and drive north (right) through Allentown to left on Iron Bridge road (ignoring the covered bridge tour sign that directs you straight ahead, here) continuing on Iron Bridge road to a right on Lapp Road through Manassas Guth Bridge. Parking is available in the park just to the north (left). Continue north on Lapp road to River Road, left at Limekiln Road into the park to Wehr's Bridge.
Return to Limekiln Road, left to Rt. 309, right. Left on Kernsville Road to Right on Jordan road to Rex's Bridge. Continue on Jordan Road to a right on Orchard Road, a gravel road, to Geiger's Bridge. Return to Jordan Road. Continue to right on Trexler Game Preserve Road to Schlicher's Bridge. Continue on Trexler Game Preserve Road to Route 309, left to right on rt. 329. Follow Route 329 east to a left on Kreidersville Road to Kreidersville Bridge. Return to Howertown Road to Weaversville Road to right on Rt. 987 to Rt. 22 west to the Northeast Extension and home.
SERVICES The best chance for restaurants and other services will be on Cedar Crest Boulevard early in the tour.
