Northeastern Lancaster County Tour

From Turnpike exit 22 take Rt. 23 west (right) to S. on Pool Forge Road. Pool Forge Bridge is part of the farmstead, clearly visible to the left of the road. Turn around and go north on Pool Forge Road (you will have to jog a little to the right on Rt. 23) to a left on Churchtown Road to a left on Weaverland Road to Weaver's Mill Bridge. Continue through the bridge to a right on rt. 897 to a left on E. Main St. in Terre Hill. Take a right on Broad St. and a left on Vine to a right on Gristmill Road. Oberholzer's, or Red Run Mill Bridge is on the right of the road in a campground on Muddy Creek.

Return south on Gristmill Road to a right on Federal Rt. 322 to a left on Cabin Road. This left is a bit hard to find. It is perhaps a hundred yards on past the bridge, the old ruined mill on Muddy Creek, and Hinkletown Inn. Some maps say it is Conestoga Creek Road, but the sign at the turn says Cabin Road. Continue to a left on Cider Mill to Bitzer's Mill Bridge. Return to a right on Willis Pierce Road to a left on Valley Road to a left on Route 322.

In Ephrata, turn left on State Street. Immediately when State Street joins Rt. 272, turn right on Rothsville Road to a right on Rettew Road to Keller's Bridge. Return and continue southwest on Rothsville Road to a right on Rt. 772 to a right on Picnic Woods Road to Erb's Bridge. Double back to a left on Millway Road, left on Meadow Valley Road to a left on Rt. 272.

North of Ephrata, turn right at the Covered Bridge Antique Shop, just before the bridge over Cocalico Creek. If you miss it, double back with a right on Creek Road. Butcher's Mill Bridge crosses the creek between the Covered Bridge Antique Shop and Creek Road. Return to Rt. 272 northeast to return to the Pennsylvania Turnpike at Exit 21.

SERVICES Ephrata has restaurants and a food service in the Donecker's craft market, but in the off season, we found several restaurants closed. Just after the left on Rothville Road, we found a satisfactory family restaurant on the immediate right. At the end of the tour, near Turnpike Exit 21, are a number of restaurants. And, of course, Rt. 272 in this area is Antiques Row, so there's the opportunity to combine 'tiquin', bridgin', and home cookin'.
