Hayes Clark Bridge

Hayes Clark bridge is one of the "twin bridges" located on the property of the Brandywine Conservancy. In its present form it is not old. It was built in 1971 to replace a bridge that burned in 1963. But this bridge is not a restoration of the earlier one. Instead it was built as a near-duplicate of the nearby, quite distinctive Mary Ann Pyle or Speakman #2 Bridge. The earlier bridge was a Burr Truss bridge. The name seems to be derived from still other bridges, upstream, that have been destroyed by flood.

Hayes Clark bridge is located in a Brandywine Conservancy reserve, and permission must be obtained from the conservancy, in Chadd's Ford, before it may be visited.
