Pennsylvania is the covered bridge state, and among Pennsylvania counties, three stand out for the number and concentration of covered bridges. Columbia County is third in numbers, after Lancaster and Washington Counties, but has an interesting variety and some remarkable landmarks, such as the Paden twin bridges. Here are four covered bridge rambles in Columbia County. When we took these rambles, we stayed at Yellow Gables B&B in Bloomsburg, a pleasant walk from the shops and restaurants of Main Street. Bloomsburg is a college town, and the college-town ambience is pleasant, but you might want to check the college calendar before planning your trip.
It should take no more than about a half day to complete each of these rambles. If you want to combine them, the first two go toward the southwest from Bloomsburg, while the last two go north.
